MY CONSOLATION AND INSPIRATION WHY I AM A CATHOLIC
St. Nicholas Day is fast approaching. The reason I love this saint is not merely because he punched Arius in the face, but because he was consumed with so much love and so much zeal that he could not abide the blasphemy uttered against the object of his love: Our Lord. The other bishops, barely affected by Arius's blasphemy, grew indignant at St. Nicholas's momentary anger and threw him in jail, stripping him of the signs of his bishopric. When Our Lord and Our Lady appeared to St. Nicholas later and asked him why he was there, do you know how he answered? He said: "Because I love you, Lord--because I love you." They handed him back his pallium and Gospel, restoring him to the rank of bishop.
